This kind of detail just adds to the setting. But, I was caught completely off guard that this book could be based on a real incident! From what I had read, I knew that Trevanian was trying his hand at a western and had done a good job. "Incident at Twenty-Mile" is a "Western with a difference", and unless I miss my guess, it was intended (at least in part) as a spoof. "Trevanian" is one of four or five pen-names of Rodney Whitaker (b. ), a faculty member in film and drama who held positions at the UT Austin, Bucknell University, and Emerson College, among other institutions.
